CLLR DON WHITAKER SECURES FUNDING FOR NEW CHILDREN’S CYCLING TRACK AT THE RACCA

Local families in Whittlefield with Ightenhill are set to benefit from brand-new outdoor recreational facilities following confirmation that Councillor Don Whitaker has successfully secured funding for a dedicated children’s cycling track.

The newly funded track marks the latest phase in Cllr Whitaker’s ongoing project to upgrade community amenities on the Racca. It follows his previous success in securing municipal investment for the installation of new tennis and basketball courts on Ighten Road.

With the cycling track now officially approved and moving into the delivery phase, Cllr Whitaker has announced that his next priority for the site will be securing additional funding for dedicated parent seating, ensuring families can comfortably supervise their children.

Announcing the funding success, Cllr Don Whitaker said:

“This is fantastic news for Whittlefield with Ightenhill. Securing the funding for this new children’s cycling track means we are building real momentum on the Racca, giving local kids a safe, fun space to ride and stay active.

“This project builds directly on the work we’ve already delivered with the tennis and basketball courts nearby. My focus now turns to getting proper seating in place so parents and carers can sit comfortably while watching their children play. We are making continuous improvements to our local parks, step by step, and getting real results for our area.”

Work on the new track is expected to proceed in line with council capital delivery timelines. Further updates regarding construction schedules and parent seating proposals will be shared with ward residents as plans progress.
